Short Bio
Dr. Jayson Lou Chi Kin(BSW,MSW,MBA,PhD.Edu)
Dr. Lou Chi-kin completed his PhD in Education at the City University of Macau, with a research topic on Emergin adulthood and maturity development. After graduation, he continued to conduct research in different fields in the direction of adolescent and adult career and talent development. He is currently Programme Coordinator of Master of Social Work of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of St. Joseph. He has also 18 years of frontline social work experience.
Since 2005, after graduating from the advanced degree program in social work at Macau Polytechnic University (then Macau Polytechnic Institute), he started his social workers' career in the field include community, youth, on-campus social work services and adults. Career development and other services, he also carried out different services during his work, such as micro-film creation, experiential learning, etc., which were relatively new social work intervention methods at the time, and won the award for the most creative social worker in 2010.
Dr. Lou holds two master's degrees at the same time. After completing the supplementary course for the bachelor's degree in social work in 2008, he completed the Master's Degree of Business Administration at the University of Saint Joseph in 2010, with the research topic of social responsibility, and completed The Master of Advanced Social Work at the University of Melbourne in 2024., that he further hopes to introduce knowledge and technology from countries with more advanced social services for the development of social work in Macao.
Dr. Lou is currently a member of the Professional Committee of Social Workers of the Macau Special Administrative Region, responsible for the recognition and registration of social work academic qualifications in Macau. He is also a director of the Professional Committee of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Education Collaborative Development of the Guangdong Provincial Education Society and a researcher on responsible management education in China. He is an expert member of the institute committee and the project leader of the Macau Center of the China Institute of Responsible Management Education. He is also the executive director of the Macau Doctoral Think Tank.

Year 2 Bachelor
社區工作為社會工作三大領域之一,為「社會工作直接服務」之一。本課程將帶讓學生瞭解社區發展、社區工作的歷史、社區工作的模式,以及福利社區化等概念,並透過社區介紹,結合理論與實務,幫助同學對社區工作有基礎的認識。
This course focuses on the studies of the methods and skills of intervention, and the dynamic use of group process by the social worker working with groups. The foundation of the course is social work values and the ethical decision-making process. The content encompasses both task and treatment groups utilizing an ecosystems developmental framework. The course emphasizes understanding, affirming, and respecting groups with diverse backgrounds. Social work group facilitation is taught utilizing empirically based theories and interventions to achieve client goals. Students will know how to evaluate the effectiveness of group interventions.

This course will discuss theoretical framework of community practice, contexts, challenges, diverse population and emerging issues for community practice. It will also cover the major approaches and different models of community practice in global and local perspectives.
To address this emerging challenges and issues on globalization, this course will integrate the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that will be implemented in the community-based programs and services in Macau, China Regions and other countries. "
Year 4 Bachelor
This course provides a framework of analyzing and formulating social policy in the current political, economic and social environment in local context. It examines the roles and processes in social policy and the translation of policy to social service delivery in bringing about social welfare. By understanding how and why social policies develop, students learn to analyze policy and think critically about the use of policy for intervention in the social welfare sector.
Students will become familiar with the roles of government and non-government organizations in implementing social policies. This should further the understanding of the development of welfare services to meet the needs of the vulnerable groups in the context of rapid economic and social change.
This course is also designed to provide students with a basic understanding of the law, legal processes, and legal systems as they relate to social work practice.

This course will discuss that social work as a global profession, theoretical perspectives of transnational social work, acculturation, coping, adaptation, international social work practice and international migration of professional social workers.
It will also cover the challenges of transnationalism and the global labour market, its opportunities and challenges for social workers. Likewise, the emerging issues of the migrant workers in Macau and other countries and the role of social workers in addressing the problems /challenges of migrant workers. "
Year 1 Master
This course covers the purpose, values and contexts of social work practice. It explores social and psychological thoughts, and theories relevant to social work practice. Major concepts and principles are discussed utilizing an interdisciplinary perspective.
The course reviews the characteristics of potential client populations and the socio-cultural contexts for intervention. It involves the analysis of direct and indirect professional practice tackling novel situations in local context. "
