Year 1 Associate Diploma
Students will become acquainted with the Portuguese alphabet and the letters corresponding to different phonemes, the use of written accents and other graphic signs. Transcription and dictation exercises, development of sentences and small texts.

Students will study and explore the history, geography, culture, religion, architecture, urban development, economy, politics, arts, and everyday life of Macau, through lectures, readings, fieldwork and public communication sessions. Special emphasis will be placed on Macau's relations with surrounding regions.
The main aim of this module is to support students in examining, evaluating and developing their own knowledge about Macau through critical engagement with a wide range of information. The module will also represent an opportunity to further develop students’ reasoning ability, creativity, communication skills (through a variety of media) and cooperative working capability.
This course is the continuation of Portuguese II and will focus on public services and immediate needs, such as ordering food in a restaurant or complaining to the doctor.
This course will be a continuation of Portuguese III and an introduction to level A2 of CEFR with the introduction to the past forms.
Year 4 Bachelor
Students will study and explore the history, the social, cultural, artistic, architectural and urban development of Macau, through lectures, field work, projects of oral history, and readings of local writers and of others who have written about Macau and its peoples. Special emphasis will be placed on relations with surrounding regions, the reach and influence of the Padroado of Macau, as well as the rises and falls of its fortunes given its strategic location at the mouth of the Pearl River.
Year 1 Diploma
In this placement module students will experience learning and teaching as a practical skill and social activity. Initially, students will observe the lessons of an experienced class teacher within a school under her or his guidance, as well as with the weekly support of the University tutor. Students can then begin to work with small groups of pupils on activities that have been decided upon in collaboration with the university tutor and the experienced class teacher. Students will gradually become involved in the various functions of a class teacher leading to their full involvement in the whole range of class activities.
Continuing to develop the skills and experience acquired in Teaching Practice I, this placement module will comprise a more substantial block of teaching experience. In this module, students will be expected to take considerable responsibility for teaching, whilst still under the supervision of an experienced class teacher and the university tutor. Students will be expected to put the knowledge and understanding acquired in taught modules into practice in the classroom by effectively planning teaching and learning and by selecting appropriate teaching methods and assessment strategies to motivate student learning. Students will gain experience in managing the learning dynamics and interactions in the classroom, integrating theory and practice.
Year 1 Master
Este curso destina-se a iniciar os estudantes na abordagem da Literatura Comparada e nos seus métodos de análise de texto, abordando as tradições literárias do Ocidente e da Ásia de Leste numa perspetiva comparatista. Os estudantes contactarão com diferentes formas literárias, ao mesmo tempo que se irão familiarizando com a metodologia comparatista. O curso começará por uma análise dos escritos de Marco Polo, Mandeville e dos primeiros Missionários Jesuítas na China e no Japão. Depois de estudar a sua perceção da China e do Japão, serão examinados relatos de missionários chineses e japoneses, de letrados e/ou mercadores, na perspetiva da perceção/receção. Após o estudo destes primeiros encontros, o curso abordará obras modernas, de forma a analisar as transformações na perceção, além de outros aspetos.
