Short Bio

Dr. Teresa Loong serves as Vice-Rector (Student Life) at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) in Macau, where she provides strategic leadership across the student journey—from recruitment through to alumni engagement. Her portfolio encompasses student and alumni development, as well as domestic student recruitment across Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, areas in which she works closely with colleagues across the institution to shape a cohesive and supportive university experience.

With over two decades in higher education, Dr. Loong helped establish USJ’s Office for Student Affairs in 2006 and served as its founding Dean of Students. As the university’s Diversity Officer, she supported the initiative that made USJ the first university in Macau to admit a visually impaired student, and contributed to the development of the university’s Equality and Diversity Policy. Dr. Loong’s approach to student development emphasizes the integration of extra-curricular learning with academic goals. She believes in the value of community engagement and service learning, and has been grateful to witness students grow into thoughtful and compassionate individuals. She also values the relationships graduates maintain with the university, and has been supporting efforts to strengthen alumni engagement and foster a spirit of giving back to the wider community.

Beyond USJ, Dr. Loong has been involved in efforts to support the student affairs profession in Macau and the region. She had the honor of serving as the inaugural President of the Macao Student Affairs Association, where she worked alongside fellow professionals to encourage peer learning and exchange across local institutions. She has also appreciated opportunities to connect with student affairs colleagues in Hong Kong, and elsewhere in Asia, and has contributed to publications on the global development of student affairs. Her other roles include Vice President of the Macau Higher Education Development Association, Special Invited Representative to the 14th Guangdong Provincial Women’s Congress, and Chair of the Steering Committee for the Association of the Southeast and East Asian Catholic Colleges and Universities (ASEACCU) Annual Conference. She also serves on the boards of several educational and community organizations. Dr. Loong has also been actively engaged in international higher education dialogue in service-learning initiatives and conversations on women’s leadership in higher education.

Dr. Loong earned her Doctor of Education in Higher Education Management from Northeastern University (USA) in 2022. Throughout her career, she has sought to build bridges between students and institutions, local practice and global perspectives, and professional excellence and inclusive values.
