Testimonials

“The Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy programme has allowed me to explore my future direction through both academic research and social practice. The programme not only strengthened my academic foundation but also enabled me to integrate theory with practical counselling skills. What I found most invaluable was the knowledge and care demonstrated by my mentors and industry experts. Their generous guidance not only helped me overcome challenges in both academic studies and internships but also solidified my determination to pursue a career in psychological counselling. This has been the most inspiring experience of my professional journey.”

Ka U Ieong (Celeste), 2024

“When I first considered the Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy, I assumed a Psychology background was non-negotiable and that self-doubt almost made me walk away. That changed the moment I was admitted: the program didn’t just welcome my non-psychology background, it turned it into a strength, making it my standout experience and the foundation for everything I do now. What set this program apart wasn’t just the coursework; it was the hands-on practice that turned theory into action. I got to lead mock counselling sessions, receive real-time feedback from professors, and even experience counselling students through an internship under supervision. For someone without a psychology degree, this practical experience wasn’t just extra; it was how I built confidence. I didn’t just learn about counselling; I learned how to do it, which felt like a game-changer. Today, as a pastor in Macao, I integrate counselling skills into biblical counselling, and none of that would be possible without this program. This program didn’t just give me a degree; it gave me the ability to serve the church community and the community in Macao.”

“During my Master’s in Counselling studies at the University of Saint Joseph’ Macao, the curriculum deepened my understanding of counselling theories initially encountered in my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Additionally, the university provided substantial support for thesis writing, offering invaluable advice whenever I encountered obstacles. My thesis supervisor was both patient and professional, guiding me to transition from feeling overwhelmed to hopeful about completing the paper. As my work revolves around helping profession, I genuinely felt supported by the university throughout this journey. It was through this unwavering support that I progressed step by step toward success. I consider myself truly fortunate to have completed my master’s degree here.”

Ka Lok Choi (Elvis), 2020

“The Master in Counselling and Psychotherapy programme was a very important and significant turning point for me in my career and vocational development, equipping me with a professional knowledge base and clear understanding of the prerequisites of effective counselling. An essential ingredient for such learning was the professionalism of an international body of teaching staff, all of whom were very experienced in their respective counselling modalities. Furthermore, their empathic, authentic and accepting presence was an inspiration to me in learning more about the essential principles of psychotherapy. Even further, after graduation, the MCP gave me the confidence to pursue my own therapeutic interests in Child-Centred Play Therapy, Art therapy, and Sandplay therapy. I highly recommend the MCP programme as a valuable foundation for any person aspiring to build a promising career and vocation in the vital mental health profession of counselling and psychotherapy.”
