“coMMsequence” – An Exhibition of Audiovisual and Interactive Media Works about the Communities of Macao – a project subsidised by Macau Foundation and BNU.

The Bachelor of Communication and Media (BCM) Graduation Show 2026, titled “coMMsequence”, was successfully held on May 18 at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ). The event featured two main parts: a film screening at the Fátima Auditorium followed by the opening of the media art exhibition at the Kent Wong Gallery, sponsored by the Macau Foundation and BNU. The show presented 4 short films and 15 digital artworks as well as portfolios and personal branding works, created by the graduating students. The projects were supervised by Prof. Daniel Farinha, Prof. Filipa Martins, and Prof. João Brochado.

The evening highlighted student achievement, with the graduating class taking center stage both literally and figuratively. Prof. João Brochado emphasized the programme’s tradition of placing students at the heart of the event. In his speech, he noted that while technical skills are developed throughout the degree, the graduation projects focus more on professional and personal growth, particularly in project management and real-world scenarios – necessary skills to overcome the challenges of the “outside world”.

“We always want to push the students to do more, we always feel like after four years, they should deliver more…” said Prof. Daniel Farinha, one of the three supervisors. He described the guidance approach as balancing structure with freedom: “We try to strike a balance between providing guidance, advice, and also giving the student freedom to explore their own ideas.” Prof. Filipa Martins highlighted the continued environmental focus, stating that, following last year’s first-ever green graduation exhibition, this year’s edition was again designed with strong environmental consciousness and alignment with UNESCO’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Featuring a total of 19 projects from the graduating class, the theme “coMMsequence” blends “communication” and “consequence,” highlighting the profound impact of human decisions – from the rise of Artificial Intelligence to the urgent need for sustainability. The projects support 7 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The film screening presented four distinct short films focusing on human resilience, and the “fight” against Artificial Intelligence that is undertaking the planet and threatening human life as we know it.

The exhibition transformed the Kent Wong Gallery into an immersive experience with 15 interactive digital installations that blur the lines between physical and digital realities. Using advanced AI tools and interactive technologies, the works explore how identity is shaped in the digital age, the emotional toll of online interactions, and the consequences of digital actions. Many pieces address themes of cyberbullying, miscommunication, fragmented attention, and the search for reconnection with others and the environment.

The exhibition is described as a powerful reflection on how every digital choice leaves a lasting footprint, encouraging visitors to become more conscious of their own role in a hyperconnected world. Alongside the installations and films, students also showcased their professional portfolios, demonstrating four years of multidisciplinary development and readiness for the industry.

This year’s show continues to strengthen USJ’s BCM programme reputation as a forward-thinking, top-ranking course in Asia, successfully blending creativity, technology, and social responsibility.
