Prof. Duncan Miers, Director of the English Language Centre at USJ, was invited to deliver an address and present prizes at the 6th Koala Excellence Olympiad (KEO) Global Finals.



Prof. Duncan Miers, Director of the English Language Centre at the University of the Saint Joseph (USJ), was invited to deliver an address and present prizes at the 6th Koala Excellence Olympiad (KEO) Global Finals, held at the Royal Hotel in Macao from 4 to 7 July 2026.

The Olympiad brought together more than 250 primary and secondary students from 11 countries and territories across Asia, including students from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Thailand. Prof. Miers’ participation is a highlights of USJ’s engagement with regional educational initiatives and its commitment to promoting academic excellence and cross-cultural exchange.

In his address, Professor Miers commended the participants for their dedication and intellectual curiosity, emphasising the importance of global collaboration in education. “Events like the KEO Global Finals remind us that learning knows no borders”, he said. “These young scholars represent the future of innovation and cross-cultural understanding”.

The Koala Excellence Olympiad (KEO), developed by a team of Australian educational experts and aligned with the Australian Curriculum, assesses students across four disciplines: English, Mathematics, Science, and Art. The competition emphasises critical thinking, creativity, and real-world application, moving beyond rote memorisation.
