On February 5th, 2025, Prof. Mo Chen from the School of Education at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) was invited to co-organise a two-hour teacher training session with Principal Wong Pui Mui from Escola Oficial da Flora. The training session, titled “Assessment Systems and Indicators of Life Skills for Students in Special Education Schools: Theory and Application,” was the final session of three held at the school that day, attended by more than 30 special education teachers.

Through theoretical explanations, Prof. Chen emphasised the importance of life skills for special education students and introduced related assessment frameworks and tools. Principal Wong further connected theory with practice, drawing on the life skills curriculum at Escola Oficial da Flora. The session concluded with case analyses that guided teachers in actively discussing how to assess and teach life skills in the special education setting, enabling them to better understand the significance of teaching life skills to students studying in special education schools.

This training is part of USJ’s ongoing efforts to advance special education practices in Macao and aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).
