In January this year, Prof. Simões showcased a video presentation in 17 languages, produced by the Communication and Media students for the UNESCO’s MIL Cities initiative, at the “XI International Meeting on Culture, Communication, Marketing and Community” held in Havana, Cuba. The meeting was held with the support of UNESCO and UNICEF with the central theme “Media Literacy and Artificial Intelligence for MIL Cities: sustainable and resilient”.
More recently on the 2nd of February in São Tomé and Príncipe, Prof. Simões presented a selection of student works titled “Digital Exhibition of Photographies and Videos of the USJ Macao BCM Students”. At the same time, he was invited as a guest speaker at the “Contribution to Entrepreneurship and the Development of Digital Media in São Tomé and Principe” Conference, held on 19 February on the island of Príncipe.
Next week, he will be at Algarve University, in Faro – Portugal, at the Escola Superior de Educação e Comunicação (ESEC), to teach Transcultural Journalism at the Master in Communication Science and showcase one more time the BCM students works, and on the 17th of March he will be in Munique, Germany, at Macromedia University, to give a workshop titled “Ethics and diversity in media – benefits and challenges“ and show the video “Ethical Values” produced by Prof. Simões with the participation of USJ students and professors.
Through these global conferences and events, USJ Macao’s Communication and Media students are demonstrating their aptitude to contribute to an evolving media landscape as professionals and critical thinkers. Under the guidance of the Department of Media, Arts, and Technology at USJ, they are equipped with the knowledge and ethics necessary to make a positive impact in their fields.
Furthermore, Prof. Simões will give an online lecture from USJ to the Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences (FSJES) Souissi at Mohammed V University of Rabat, Morocco, this coming April, where he will present his new research work titled “The Role of Artificial Intelligence and ethics in the development of healthcare services in Africa”.
