The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) participated in the “Study in Macau” Education Expo, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on September 4.
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) participated in the “Study in Macau” Education Expo, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on September 4. The event brought together higher education institutions in Malaysia and relevant study-abroad organizations to promote Macao’s academic offerings to prospective students across Malaysia and Southeast Asia. More than 1,000 local students attended and sought consultations on study pathways in Macao.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Mr. Sam Hou Fai; the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia, Mr. Ouyang Yujing; Secretary for Economy and Finance, Ms. Ng Wai Han; Chief-of-Office of GCE, Ms. Chan Kak; Director of Education and Youth Development Bureau, Mr. Chi Meng Kong; President of The Association of Graduates from Universities and Colleges of China, Malaysia, Mr. Lim Kok Yan; and Head of Student Affairs Department of the United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia, Mr. Shim Boon Haw, among other distinguished guests.
During the Expo, Mr. Sam Hou Fai witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements between USJ and The Association of Graduates from Universities and Colleges of China, Malaysia. The agreement is designed to strengthen student mobility and enhance collaborative exchanges between the counterparts.
USJ’s Vice-Rector for Student Life, Dr. Teresa Loong, together with Ms. Teresinha Fok, Officer of the International Affairs Office, attended the Expo and delivered informative briefings. The USJ booth featured scholarship opportunities and highlighted institutional strengths for Malaysian students, parents, school counselors, and education advisors. Key messages included USJ’s commitment to small class sizes that enable individualized mentoring, as well as the benefits of a diverse learning environment. The booth also showcased program areas aligned with Malaysia’s national development priorities, including the advancement of AI-ready talent, the digital economy, and high value industries—particularly in areas where Malaysia faces a shortage of skilled professionals, namely Digital and AI, as well as Healthcare and Creative Industries.
Dr. Loong noted that USJ hopes the Expo will help local teachers, students, and parents gain a deeper understanding of Macao’s higher education and the opportunities available. She further emphasized that Macao provides a safe and secure learning environment, maintains close connections with the Mainland, and offers multilingual advantages that give international students a broad and inclusive perspective.
USJ extends its sincere appreciation to the Macao SAR Education and Youth Development Bureau and the Education Fund of Macao for their support, which made USJ’s participation in the “Study in Macau” Education Expo possible.
