A warm and proud congratulations from the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) to Prof. Karen Araño Tagulao for being recognised as a “marine biologist championing mangrove conservation” in the #MadeItInChina magazine, which celebrates over 50 Filipinos living and working in China.

Prof. Karen Araño Tagulao, Programme Coordinator for the Master of Environmental Sciences and Management at the Institute of Science and Environment (ISE) and  Chair of USJ Green Committee, has led various research projects focused on marine ecology and the conservation of mangroves. Her work emphasises the role of mangroves in climate change mitigation and plastic pollution management in the Macao SAR and she aims to further develop her research line in the area of environmental and marine ecological monitoring in the region.

In conjunction with this recognition, the Philippine Consulate General in Macao, led by Consul General Edna May Grecia Lazarro, hosted a diplomatic reception on 12 June, 2025 at the Artyzen Grand Lapa Hotel, to celebrate the 127th Philippine Independence Day. The reception also marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and China. As part of this milestone, the Consulate recognised and presented awards to Filipinos in Macao whose success stories were featured in the #MadeItInChina series, a collaborative initiative of the Philippine Embassy in Beijing and six Philippine Consulates General in China.

USJ Macao proudly acknowledges Prof. Tagulao’s achievements and her vital role in advancing environmental conservation in the Macao SAR!
