Head of the Media, Arts and Technology Department of FAH/USJ, Prof. José Manuel Simões, delivered a keynote speech at the first “Global Competence in Education Setting Forum 2022: Global Citizenship” held in Macao on August 27, 2022.

Prof. José Manuel Simões, Head of the Media, Arts and Technology Department and Coordinator for the Communication & Media programmes of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), was invited as a Keynote Speaker at the first “Global Competence in Education Setting Forum 2022: Global Citizenship” organised by the Macao Education Development Research Association and held at the City University of Macau on August 27, 2022.

As a Global Competence Forum, the event was dedicated to exploring, exchanging, sharing, and building new educational concepts, practices, and knowledge among various local educators in this new era characterised by change. It also aimed to form new educational partnerships between Macao and neighbouring regions.

Prof. Simões’ keynote speech on “The Educational Role of Ethics and the Objective Moral Law in a Professional Globalised World” talked about how the role of media ethics can contribute to a better world and how educators are looking to facilitate communication, tolerance, fortitude, and understanding.

In his conclusion, Prof. José Manuel Simões stated that “Education and pedagogy play fundamental roles in view of the formation of values. The role of the ethics professors must inevitably be to defend a morality of honesty, respect, and openness for people, the accuracy of facts, and honest analysis in order to establish ties, resorting to a serious and pluralistic stance“.
