The School of Education (SED) hosted two public lectures sparking insightful discussions on student development and the evolving role of education.
The School of Education (SED) at USJ successfully hosted two public lectures at the Don Bosco Auditorium on the 1st of March 2025, sparking insightful discussions on student development and the evolving role of education.
The public lectures included:
Learning Communities and Student Competency in the AI Era (14:30 – 15:30)
Principal Leong Iao Cheng examined the impact of learning communities in shaping student competencies for the AI-driven future. He emphasized that teachers must learn to effectively utilize AI to meet new educational challenges. Additionally, Principal Leong discussed the evolving role of teachers, highlighting the shift towards being a scaffold—supporting students in constructing their own knowledge and learning pathways.

Principal Joyce Chung led an engaging session on the transformation of schools and education, challenging traditional views and encouraging innovative perspectives on the role of schooling. She emphasized the importance of self-reflection and collaborative learning in student development, underscoring the need for education to adapt to changing societal demands.
Both speakers touched on the concept of learning communities, reinforcing their significance in fostering student growth and preparing them for the future.
