ARTTECH FUSION 2023: Bridging Art and Technology for Sustainable Solutions

ArtTech Fusion 2023 is a dynamic platform that explores the harmonious synergy of art and technology to address pressing global issues.



The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) held the ArtTech Fusion 2023 from October 13th to 15th, 2023. The international event themed “Inspiration for People to Act on Sustainability” included the participation of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao, Sains University Malaysia, Kwangwoon University (Korea), Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), Academia Xi’an Fine Arts (China), Patheon Institute of Technology (Italy), Ulsan Art Museum, and Dongseo University (Korea) among the Eurasian universities.

The USJ committee team included Vice-rector Prof. Álvaro Barbosa, Prof. Gérald Estadieu, Prof. Filipa Martins de Abreu, Prof. Sandra Olga Ng, and Researcher Moon Cheung, who have all played critical roles in organising the Vietnam Events at ArtTech Fusion 2023.

ArtTech Fusion 2023 focused on the transformational power of art and technology in a society facing challenges on sustainability, such as pollution, global warming, cultural problems, inequality, and social stratification. There were 23 events during the ArtTech Fusion 2023, including 3D mapping art exhibitions, holographic art displays, inexpensive NFT-based art exhibitions, interactive performances, and more. Global conferences on long-term digital education, holographic art, and experience creation are also held at ArtTech Fusion 2023. Priorities include increasing technology accessibility, raising educational standards, and preserving cultural heritage.

One of the highlight of the event was Prof. Barbosa’s LIVE CONCERT PERFORMANCES, where attendees were invited to step into the mesmerising world of “Cultural Sustainability“. This live music performance was an immersive journey through the intersection of sound and images.

WORKSHOP VR MINDFULNESS SINGLE-USER EXPERIENCE
Workshop Coordination by Prof. Sandra Olga Ng Ka Man

The “Mindfulness Virtual Reality (VR) Experiment” is part of the study outcome from a PhD in Global Studies at USJ. It aims to understand participants’ main thoughts and connections to mindfulness by testing four immersive VR experiences.

 At the “Global Affordable Art (NFT) Exhibition,” a group of 19 enthralling artworks created by professors and students from USJ’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities go on an intriguing trip at the intersection of art and technology. These digital artists used blockchain’s transformational qualities to democratise art, ensuring it is available to a worldwide audience. They are united by a great passion for art and a dedication to creative innovation. Each NFT is a distinct piece of digital art, showcasing the artist’s limitless creativity while rejecting customary limits. This show heralds a digital revolution in creative expression, a symphony of creativity, and a monument to the limitless possibilities at the crossroads of art and technology.


SOUNDSCAPE ART INSTALLATION – “Soundwalk Macao”
Art Installation Coordination by Prof. Gerald Estadieu

This art installation, part of the “Soundwalk Macao” Research Project coordinated by Prof. Gérald Estadieu, Prof. Sandra Olga Ng Ka Man, Prof. Jung Chul-Hur, and researchers Diogo Vieira and Moon Cheung, encouraged people to explore Macao’s soundscapes. This installation provided a one-of-a-kind sensory experience with motion graphics and imagery.

This event showcased the best photography artworks by USJ’s Communication and Media Graduate Students. A selection of 25 to 30 students’ artworks were displayed in a Virtual Reality environment at the Kent Wong Exhibition VR Gallery.

ArtTech Fusion 2023 was an unforgettable experience where art, culture, and technology converged to address global challenges. The involvement of USJ in these events showcased the power of collaboration, creativity and innovation.
