USJ Macao has joined a new Sino-Portuguese consortium dedicated to advancing research and innovation in aviation simulation technology, strengthening academic and industry collaboration between Macau, Mainland China and Portugal.
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) has joined a new Sino-Portuguese consortium dedicated to advancing research and innovation in aviation simulation technology, strengthening academic and industry collaboration between Macau, Mainland China and Portugal.
The initiative brings together USJ, China Southern Airlines, Guangdong University of Technology (GDUT), and the University of Madeira (UMa). The consortium aims to develop practical applications in aviation, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI), virtual and augmented reality, and advanced simulation technologies for areas such as pilot training and aviation research.
Representing USJ, Prof. Carlos Sena Caires, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, highlighted the University’s role in design consultancy and in the development of virtual and augmented reality applications. Through the partnership, USJ is also working with the University of Madeira, whose research includes the use of AI and environmental modelling in the context of Madeira Airport.
The consortium reflects USJ’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships and connecting academic research with industry. It also supports greater collaboration across the Greater Bay Area and Portuguese-speaking countries, with plans for academic mobility, student and faculty exchanges, joint workshops, and research projects with potential applications in industry.
The initiative further reinforces USJ’s strategy of internationalisation and its commitment to developing interdisciplinary research and partnerships with leading institutions in the Greater Bay Area and beyond.
