The USJ English Debate Society held its first Beginners’ Day on 9 September 2015. The Beginners’ Day has been very successful. Through this event, new members of the Debate Society had a better understanding of debate and our Society. Also it provides the society’s senior members to get to know more about our new members. It is also our pleasure to have Prof. Romulo Alegre to join us during the event.

The Beginners’ Day is composed by several sessions and we have 7 new members attending the event. In the beginning, Victory, our president gave a short speech introducing our society, some of the upcoming events and competitions and expectations we have for the new members. Second, we have invited Mukeh, our former president to have a speech about a brief introduction in what debate is and what will be expected during practices and competitions. Lastly, we have two activities related to debate for the new members so they can have an idea in what we do and try it themselves.

Starting from this week, we will start our regular meetings and begin training aiming for competitions and tournaments. We will be meeting every Wednesday at 6:30 for the new members to learn and practice debate technique and every Thursday for the seniors to prepare competitions. We will try to reserve computer lab 1 in Nape 1. The following are some of the pictures from the event. Thank you again for all of your supports.

For those who are interested to join us, please send email to zoesaelim@usj.edu.mo or victory.osarodion@usj.edu.mo. We have a Facebook page open for public (https://www.facebook.com/usjeds).
