The Bachelor of Communication and Media (BCM) Graduation Show 2025, titled EVERY 1, had its grand opening on the 15th May at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), drawing a diverse crowd of students, educators, government representatives, and local creatives.

The show began at 6:30pm with a screening of five short films at the Fátima Auditorium, followed by the official opening of the media art exhibition at 7:30pm in the Kent Wong Gallery. With the graduating students in the spotlight throughout the whole event and hosted by the students themselves, the ceremony was a heartfelt celebration of collaboration, creativity, and growth. With remarkable professionalism, the students shared their gratitude with professors, mentors, families, and supporters before unveiling their cinematic work.

Prof. João Brochado, Head of the Media, Art and Technology (MAT) Department of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, was invited on stage and addressed the audience, praising the students for creating and developing not just one, but two ambitious projects each. He acknowledged the amazing work, dedication and team spirit of the MAT team  – Prof. José Manuel Simões, Prof. Filipa Martins, and Prof. Daniel Farinha – and explained that the show’s title, “EVERY 1”, was inspired by Pope Francis’ vision of inclusion and harmony. Prof. Brochado also emphasized the department’s commitment to sustainability and alignment with the UNESCO Sustainable Development Goals – “EVERY 1” was USJ’s first-ever green graduation exhibition, setting a new benchmark for sustainability in student-led events.

The short films captivated the audience with their professional look and rang, spanning comedy, thriller, and drama –  featured student-led direction, editing, and even acting. For the first time, artificial intelligence was integrated into the production process, particularly in soundtrack development, marking a technological leap forward for the programme.

Among the honourable guests in attendance were WONG IOK IENG (黃玉瑩) representative from the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEDJ), Professor Álvaro Barbosa, Vice-Rector of USJ, and local filmmaker and mentor Mr. António Sanmarful, all of whom commended the students for their creativity and professionalism.

Following the screenings, the celebration continued at the Kent Wong Gallery, where 14 interactive media installations invited visitors into immersive experiences shaped by photography, film, and digital storytelling. The works explored Macao’s cultural landscapes, offering audiences a chance to engage, reflect, and connect with the stories of local communities.

Described as a landmark moment for the programme, the exhibition blends tradition with innovation. Mr. George Chan, Head of the Department of Students at DSEDJ, noted that although he had attended similar exhibitions at other local universities, USJ’s stands out and that it felt like walking through galleries in Europe or Canada. Dr. Angela Ngai, President of USJ’s Alumni Association General Assembly, was equally moved by the students’ accomplishments.

The exhibition at Kent Wong Gallery is open to the public until May 30th, 2025, offering visitors a powerful glimpse into the future of media, art, and communication.
