The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) participated in “Learning from global university SDG activities” webinar, hosted by the Times Higher Education’s Consultancy (THE) on the 20th January 2021.

The University of Saint Joseph (USJ), represented by the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Strategic Development, Prof. Álvaro Barbosa, participated in the webinar titled “Learning from global university SDG activities“, hosted by the Times Higher Education’s Consultancy (THE) on the 20th January 2021, as a guest speaker and member of the panel.

The webinar marked the launch of THE Consultancy’s work with Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) and 35 Thai university partners; and it aimed to share experiences of how other universities are supporting and using the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as a framework.

During the webinar, Prof. Álvaro Barbosa highlighted that tackling societal challenges can also be a good tool for increasing prospect students positively. “During our application process to the impact rankings we implemented measures and publish content that we planned to do anyway. However, it was done in a way that allows us to benchmark with other Universities. We consider the impact rankings as a platform for the exchange of knowledge on how to follow and apply the best Sustainable Development Practices.”

USJ is now applying to international ranking with THE Impact Rankings and is constantly demonstrating achievements in the United Nations SDGs. The USJ Environmental Action Programme and USJ Social Outreach Programme support staff and students in implementing this commitment.
