Prof. Nuno Soares, Head of the Department of Architecture and Design of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at USJ, was appointed Co-Director of the UNESCO-UIA Validation Commission for the triennial period 2023-2026.



Prof. Nuno Soares, Head of the Department of Architecture and Design of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), was appointed Co-Director of the UNESCO-UIA Validation Commission for the triennial period 2023-2026.

The International Union of Architects (UIA) is a global organisation composed of national architectural associations from 120 countries and territories, working together towards a common goal of uniting architects across the world. It is the only global architecture organisation recognised by most United Nations agencies, such as UNESCO, UNCHS, ESOSOC, UNIDO, the World Health Organisation, and the WTO. The organisation acts on many scopes through its six commissions, one of which the UNESCO-UIA Validation Commission.

The UNESCO-UIA Validation Commission aims to set an international standard for excellence in architectural education, ensuring the prestige and integrity of validated schools.

Prof. Nuno Soares, who is now Co-Director alongside Ar. Deniz Incedayi from Turkey, will work to strengthen the UNESCO-UIA as a validation system that promotes the excellence of education standards worldwide and increases its positive impact on architectural education worldwide.

He has been actively involved in the UIA Education Commission and the UNESCO-UIA Validation Council for Architecture Education since 2014, and has extensive leadership experience in international architecture education commissions, having served as ARCASIA Chairman of Architecture EducationMember of the Steering Committee of the UIA Education Commission (EDUCOM) and Member of the Steering Committee of the UNESCO-UIA Validation Council for Architectural Education.
