A MoU for strategic cooperation was signed between Tianheyuan Biotechnology Group and the University of Saint Joseph during the “World Digital Economy Organisation Forum: Inheriting Eastern Civilisation and Setting Sail for the Digital Economy”.
On the 3rd March 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for strategic cooperation was signed between Tianheyuan Biotechnology Group and the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) during the “World Digital Economy Organisation Forum: Inheriting Eastern Civilisation and Setting Sail for the Digital Economy,” held at Macao Fisherman’s Wharf. This forum marked a new beginning for traditional Chinese medicine in the era of the digital economy and indicated that the deep integration of traditional Chinese medicine and biopharmaceutical technology in the future will bring new developments to the global health industry. The event was co-organised by the Digital Economy Professional Committee of the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Economic and Trade Development Promotion Association and the World Digital Economy Organisation, focusing on “Promoting the Development of Biomedical Technology and Exploring the Direction and Opportunities of Industrial Transformation in the Digital Economy Era”.
Ms. Huang Yifei, director of Tianheyuan Biotechnology Group, expressed her confidence that through this event, a long-term and stable industry-university-research-finance cooperation platform can be established to promote the transformation and application of scientific research results, and to foster the coordinated development of upstream and downstream processes and the internationalisation of traditional Chinese medicine industrial chains. Following the appropriate diversification and “1 + 4” strategy of the Macao SAR government concerning the Big Health TCM industrial development, Tian Hey Yuan has set its sights on further developing research capabilities in Macao and in the Hengqin In-Depth Cooperation Zone. The group also plans to collaborate with the TCM sector in the manufacturing of its products in Macao for its overseas market to complement its manufacturing base in Huizhou and Guangdong province.
This collaboration resulted from ongoing dialogue between Tianheyuan Group, which commenced from the visit to USJ on 19th February 2025, and continued through discussions with the USJ Sino-Lusophone Business Development Centre in Hengqin. TCM companies from the Greater Bay area are seeking opportunities to collaborate with USJ to develop the internationalisation of traditional Chinese medicine and accelerate the synergistic development of the TCM industry in Macao and the In-Depth Cooperation Zone.
The proposed industry-academia collaboration is welcomed by the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation of USJ, Professor Alexandre Lobo, who elaborated that USJ would be able to provide support in the areas of market development and research in markets related to Portuguese-speaking countries. Furthermore, this will fully leverage Macao’s role as the Portuguese-speaking countries service platform for the internationalisation of its TCM products through Macao.
