The School of Education (SED) at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) successfully organised a specialised teachers’ training workshop titled “AI in Education: From Tools to Infrastructure” on 28 April, 2026.

This training session featured with a keynote presentation by Prof. Iris Mak, Programme Coordinator of the Post-Graduate Diploma in Education. The event was facilitated by Dr. Ally S. Nyamawe, Researcher at the United Nations University, bringing together a delegation of professors from Northern Polytechnical University, China. Participants included Prof. Zhou Shuang, Vice Dean and Associate Professor, and other faculty members specializing in English language education, applied linguistics, translation and related fields.

Prof. Iris Mak’s presentation session explored the evolving role of artificial intelligence in education, shifting the discourse from general curiosity toward structural integration. Key themes included human-machine collaborative intelligence, the development of AI literacy as workforce infrastructure, and the need for teachers to use AI purposefully while training students to think and focus critically.

The interactive training fostered valuable academic exchange between the visiting scholars and USJ faculty, strengthening cross-institutional collaboration in educational innovation. The School of Education is happy to extend the collaboration with the United Nations University and Northern Polytechnical University, looking forward to future joint initiatives that will further advance teacher development and educational innovation in the era of artificial intelligence.
