On December 7th, 2019, the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) organised the 3rd FSS-MMSSC Public Lecture and, later that evening, the 1st FSW – Forum of Social Work.
In the public lecture, Ms. Cheng Qi, a Clinical Psychologist from Shanghai, shared her work experiences as the first child specialist in China. She used vivid examples to illustrate the challenging process of localisation – how she adjusted the knowledge and skills she learned from the University of Pittsburg (United States of America) to be more compatible with Chinese culture and local needs.
Following the public lecture, around 20 students of the Master of Social Work (MSW), as well as professors, alumni and other entities from local social agencies attended the 1st Forum of Social Work. Two student representatives of the Year 2 MSW provided oral presentations on their dissertations; while the rest of the students presented their dissertation research at a poster session.
The forum is sponsored under the Macao Foundation projects of the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) and the Public and International Relations Office (PIRO).
In the coming year, FSS’ Department of Social Work will organise another series of public lectures that will be held on a monthly basis. Nine public lectures will be held for the local social service professionals, students, professors and interested individuals.
