At the invitation of Guangzhou Enshan Social Service Center, Dr. Jayson Lou, Programme Coordinator for the Master of Social Work of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Saint Joseph, participated in the “Brains Together” Dementia Service Exchange in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (online) on December 16, 2022.

Experts, scholars, and front-line staff from different cities in the Greater Bay Area participated in the exchange and shared their opinions. With the theme of Postponing Cognitive Decline in the Elderly with Photography as an Intervention Technique, Dr. Lou introduced how social workers use photography as an intervention technique, which enables patients with dementia and their families to assess and understand their cognitive decline from multiple angles in a modern and lifelike way, and helps them to make adjustments to life. He also shared the front-line experience of social workers’ intervention and encouraged fellow workers to give more thought to providing services.

At the sharing session after the exchange, many participants asked questions on the topic, which struck a chord with other participants. The Faculty will continue to promote exchanges on various health issues.
