Initial findings indicate a high level of overall satisfaction among students, faculty, and staff. Factors such as air quality, cleanliness, lighting, and acoustics were among the most appreciated by users.

As part of the ARC Sustainability Performance Assessment at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), the User Experience Survey phase has now been successfully completed.

This stage focuses on the “human experience” dimension of building performance, complementing technical and environmental data with direct feedback from campus users. The survey gathered insights on key aspects such as comfort, indoor environmental quality, acoustics, lighting, and overall usability of spaces. By incorporating these perspectives, the assessment reinforces the importance of user-centered evaluation in shaping more responsive and effective campus strategies.

A high level of user participation was achieved with over 250 responses collected. The results provide a valuable snapshot of how students, faculty, and staff perceive and interact with the campus environment. Initial findings indicate a high level of overall satisfaction among occupants, with more than half reporting being very or extremely satisfied. Factors such as air quality, cleanliness, lighting, and acoustics were among the most appreciated by users.

Coordinated by Urban Practice, this phase forms an integral part of the ARC Sustainability Performance Assessment, an internationally recognised framework to evaluate and improve campus operational performance.

By integrating user perception with operational data, ARC enables a more comprehensive understanding of how spaces perform in everyday use, moving beyond technical metrics to reflect lived experience.

The completion of this phase marks an important step in USJ’s ongoing commitment to enhancing campus quality, supporting informed decision-making, and fostering a more responsive and engaging academic environment.
