USJ Doctoral School Hosts Doctoral Forum on AI’s Impact on Research

The Doctoral School aims to promote understanding among students and supervisors regarding the responsible and ethical use of AI in research.



The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Doctoral School recently hosted a thematic Doctoral Forum titled “AI’s Impact on Research” on Friday, 12 June 2026, from 19:00 to 21:00, at the USJ Conference Room.

The forum commenced with a welcome address by Professor Adérito Fernandes-Marcos, Dean of the Doctoral School. This was followed by presentations from doctoral students, including Shi Weixiong, Lei Ka Ieng, and Nguyen Trong Nghia, showcasing their research projects.

The event then featured a panel discussion titled “Navigating the Future: AI’s Impact on Research,” moderated by Prof. Alexandre Lobo, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at USJ. The panel discussion featured Dr. Samar Shailendra from Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia, and Professor Simon James Fong from the University of Macau, Macao. Dr. Shailendra discussed the potential benefits and limitations of using Generative Artificial Intelligence in systematic literature surveys, while Professor Fong explored the role of AI agents in transforming research workflows.

The event was free and open to the general public, with an online option to join via Zoom. The Doctoral School aims to promote understanding among students and supervisors regarding the responsible and ethical use of AI in research.

After the event, participants were invited to a light dinner hosted by the University, providing an excellent opportunity for networking and further discussion.
