The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and Guizhou Education University officially signed a sister-school cooperation agreement on the 6 of June 2026, marking the transition from a framework partnership to a comprehensive strategic collaboration and jointly promoting higher education exchanges and talent cultivation between Guizhou and Macao.

The signing ceremony was held at Guizhou Education University. Guizhou Normal University warmly received the delegation with representatives including President Prof. Wang Shuqian; Committee member, Vice President Prof. Zhao Shouying; Zhang Ting, Committee member, Director of the UFWD and Dean of the School of Continuing Education; and Zhang Bin, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office (Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs Office). The USJ delegation was led by Vice-Rector for Student Affairs Dr. Teresa Loong, along with Prof. George Du, Dean of the Institute for Data Engineering and Sciences; Prof. Jenny Lao Phillips, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law; David Yang, Assistant Head of Domestic Student Recruitment Office; Evonne Chiu, Founding President of AAUSJ and President of General Assembly of AAUSJ; Dr, Benjamin Yue, Vice-President of General Assembly of AAUSJ; Addy Chan, Chairman of Executive Committee of AAUSJ, as well as students representatives. The ceremony was also honored by the presence of distinguished guests including Ao Pak Loi, Standing Committee Member of the Guizhou Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, President of the Macau Guizhou Association Federation; Kong Xianglong, Director of the UFWD of Guizhou province; and Ye Sen, Director of the International Office of the Guizhou Provincial Department of Education, who jointly witnessed the signing.

In her speech, Dr. Teresa Loong reviewed the history of friendly exchanges between the two universities since 2024. She noted that both sides have maintained frequent high-level visits and in-depth engagement. Following the USJ delegation’s visit to Guizhou Education University in April this year, the two parties quickly reached a significant consensus on upgrading their relationship to a sister-university partnership. The rapid signing of this agreement fully reflects the importance and mutual trust placed in this collaboration by both sides. USJ will actively cooperate to jointly cultivate talents for the new era who possess patriotic sentiment, professional competence, innovative spirit, and social responsibility, while also looking forward to deeper cooperation in areas such as academic exchanges, cultural mutual learning, and faculty-student interactions.

Mr. Ao Pak Loi stated in his speech that he was honoured to witness the establishment of the sister-university relationship between the two institutions and pledged to continue playing a bridging role in promoting the complementary advantages of resources between Guizhou and Macau. Director Kong Xianglong and Director Ye Sen also delivered speeches, expressing their congratulations on the successful signing and emphasising that the Provincial Department of United Front and Department of Education would continue to support the two universities in exploring deeper cooperation models, setting an example for international exchange and cooperation in Guizhou’s education sector.

Witnessed by the representatives from both sides, Vice President Zhao Shouying and Vice-Rector Teresa Loong formally signed the sister-school cooperation agreement. 18 representatives of USJ alumni, faculty, and students also attended the ceremony, jointly witnessing this important milestone in the cooperation between the two universities.

The establishment of this sister-school relationship not only deepens the partnership between USJ and Guizhou Education University but also further leverages Macau’s advantages as a China-Portuguese-speaking countries platform and an international education hub, injecting new momentum into cultural and educational connectivity as well as regional education collaborative development between Guizhou and Macao.

This cooperation not only signifies the expansion of USJ’s partner network with mainland institutions but also puts into practice the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
