The Doctoral Forum in Global Studies 2026 featured a series of presentations and a guided tour of the USJ Robotic Lab.



The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Doctoral School and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities successfully hosted the Doctoral Forum in Global Studies 2026 on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the USJ Conference Room.

The free event, open to the general public, featured a series of presentations and a guided Robotic Lab tour. The forum commenced with a welcoming address by Professor Adérito Fernandes-Marcos, Dean of the Doctoral School, followed by a presentation on research lines in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities by Dr. Carlos Sena Caires, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

The evening’s highlight was a series of doctoral talks moderated by Dr. Gerald Estadieu, featuring invited speakers including Dr. PerMagnus Lindborg, Associate Professor at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong, and Dr. Marina Peres, Creative Director and Strategic Designer.

Dr. Lindborg who shared his insights on the doctoral student journey, highlighting key milestones and nuances, as well as his experiences supervising students. Dr. Peres presented on “designing meaning” as a process of transforming data analysis into visual stories, drawing from her experience with a data visualization module.

The forum also included a presentation by PhD candidate Alice Kok, who discussed her research on curating as an event of knowledge and its role in social integration within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The event concluded with a guided tour of the USJ Robotic Lab and explore recent research developments, including fast prototyping projects undertaken with students.
