The University of Saint Joseph’s Guilherme Lo & Teresa Lei Lo Library, also known as the “LO Library”, has received international recognition at the BLT Built Design Awards, receiving an Honorable Mention for its innovative and sustainable approach to academic space design.

The LO Library, officially inaugurated on 6 January 2025 at the USJ Ilha Verde Campus, was made possible through the generous support of the Lo family and named in honour of the late Guilherme Lo and his wife Teresa Lei Lo. Designed and built by Urban Practice, the project explores interior design as a tool to shape learning environments, moving beyond the conventional idea of a library to create an open and fluid academic space where circulation, light, and acoustics work together to enhance the user experience.

Guided by principles of sustainable architecture, the project prioritises durable materials, acoustic performance, and environmental responsibility. Through flexible layouts, modular elements, and energy-efficient systems, the design supports adaptability over time while fostering a comfortable and inclusive setting for students, staff, and visitors.

The result is a contemporary learning environment where knowledge flows seamlessly and architecture actively contributes to the way it is experienced.

The BLT Built Design Awards recognises outstanding projects worldwide that demonstrate innovation, sustainability, and excellence across the built environment, encouraging professionals to explore forward-thinking and socially meaningful spatial solutions.
