The scholarships and fellowships were donated by 19 organizations and individual donors, with a total of 181 awards granted this year, amounting to over 11.6 million Macau Patacas in funding.
Distinguished guests attending the ceremony included Mr. Chu Zhiwen, Representative of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao SAR, the Most Reverend Bishop of Macao, Stephen Lee Bun-Sang, Chancellor of USJ, Ms. Cheong Pui San, Head of Sponsorship Management Division of Macao Foundation, Ms. Janet Lui, the representative of Mr. Lucas Lo, Founding Fellow of the University of Saint Joseph Court of Benefactors, Dr. Teresa Loong, Vice-Rector of USJ, faculty members, and donor representatives.

Dr. Teresa Loong, Vice-Rector of USJ, delivered the opening speech. She stated that the ceremony honored the profound generosity and vision of the university’s donors, sponsors, and alumni partners. She emphasized that their contributions extended far beyond financial support, representing a vital investment in student potential and a shared mission to build a brighter future. The university’s commitment to internationalization was also highlighted, with gratitude expressed for the donors’ role in attracting a diverse student body from over 30 countries.
Dr. Teresa shared a success story about the transformative power of this philanthropy: a scholarship enabled a young lady from a community that once restricted female education to graduate and now serve as a teacher. Sincere thanks were also extended to the faculty for their dedication in guiding and inspiring students.
She also emphasized that the awards were presented not only for academic achievement, but also for demonstrated character, resilience, and hard work. The awards are both a launchpad for future excellence and a responsibility to make a positive impact. She urged the scholarship and fellowship recipients to drive meaningful changes on campus, in their professions, and around the world.

Mr. Du-Wen-Feng Feng, a Year-4 student representative from the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) programme in the Faculty of Business and Law (FBL), expressed heartfelt gratitude to the donors and USJ in his speech. He emphasized that this financial support is a testament to the trust and encouragement placed in students’ potential. Quoting Mark Cuban, he highlighted the value of hard work and stated that the scholarship serves as both recognition of past efforts and motivation for future pursuits. He pledged to uphold the spirit of diligent learning and contributing to society, striving to live up to the expectations of all stakeholders.

Miss Tania Stephani Luna, a Year-3 student representative from the same programme, also extended sincere thanks to the donors for their selfless support, which has enabled award recipients to broaden their horizons through studies in different regions. Sharing her exchange experience in Spain, she described the journey as challenging yet transformative, helping her break through personal limits and develop an international mindset. She emphasized that the scholarship is not merely monetary aid but a valuable opportunity for growth. All the student recipients, regardless of their backgrounds, share a thirst for knowledge and will continue to inspire one another while giving back to society and contributing to the development of Macau and the world.
