USJ-FBL and TODA Celebrate Graduates of First Sustainable Tourism Diploma Programme

The Faculty of Business and Law of the University of Saint Joseph, Macao (USJ-FBL), in partnership with the International Tourism Professionals Development Association of Macao (TODA Macau), celebrated the graduation of 39 students from the Diploma in Sustainable Tourism Practices Programme.



On 17 October 2025, the Faculty of Business and Law of the University of Saint Joseph, Macao, (USJ-FBL), in partnership with the International Tourism Professionals Development Association of Macao (TODA Macau), celebrated the graduation of 39 students from the Diploma in Sustainable Tourism Practices Programme. The ceremony honoured 23 graduates from Macao and 16 from Mozambique, Cabo Verde, and São Tomé and Príncipe. Most of whom are tourism professionals and academics.

The event gathered distinguished diplomats, industry leaders, and educators to mark this significant achievement. Congratulatory messages were received from the University of Eduardo Mondlane (Mozambique), the Departments of Culture and Tourism of Maputo, Inhambane and Nampula, and the Hotel and Tourism School of Cabo Verde.

Prof. Jenny Phillips, Dean of the FBL at USJ delivered a welcome address, highlighting “the need to bridge academic insight with practical training in sustainable tourism.” Mr. José Luís de Sales Marques, Chairman of TODA Macau, emphasised the programme’s transversal impact, noting the valuable exchange of experiences, particularly Macau’s success in linking sustainable development with tourism. Ms. Florence Ian, President of TODA Macau, reaffirmed the Association’s commitment, stating, “TODA remains dedicated to international tourism talent development, promoting knowledge exchange and sustainable development across regions.”

The comprehensive programme, conducted from March to June 2025, was delivered simultaneously onsite in Macau and online. Participants completed six intensive modules covering sustainable tourism practices in relation to the UNSDGs, tourism law, marketing strategies, air transportation, culinary tourism, and heritage management.

The ceremony was also attended by TODA Macau’s Vice President, Mr. Danilo Candido, and Board of Directors Ms. Mary Mendoza and Ms. Pamela Chan, who shared in the joy and accomplishments of the graduates.

Key partners and sponsors who supported the programme included the Consulates of Mozambique and Angola in Macau, the Portugal–China Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gracemind Marketing and Public Relations Limited, and Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau.

The Faculty of Business and Law will continue to work closely with the Executive Training and Lifelong Learning Office (ETLLO) at USJ to continue developing programmes with industry partners in the area of sustainable businesses under the Faculty’s newly established Sustainable Business Lab.
