Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Academic Affairs of USJ, Professor Álvaro Barbosa, was invited as a speaker to participate at the IAUP Asia Pacific Regional Conference 2026 with the theme “Global Connections, Collective Growth”.



Professor Álvaro Barbosa Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Academic Affairs at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao, was invited to participate as a speaker in a panel session at the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) Asia Pacific Regional Conference 2026, held from 12 to 14 January at the Putrajaya Marriott Hotel, Malaysia.

Hosted by INTI International University, the 2026 Regional Conference under the theme “Global Connections, Collective Growth”, marked the 60th anniversary of IAUP and was attended by presidents, vice-chancellors and senior leaders of higher education institutes from the Asia-Pacific region, as well as of North America, Central Asia and Europe.

Vice-Rector Professor Álvaro Barbosa shared his insights on internationalisation and the future of universities in the Asia Pacific region during the panel session on the topic “Global Competencies and Inclusive Growth” alongside Professor Dato Ir. Dr. Mohd Saleh Bin Jaafar, Vice-Chancellor of Albukhary International University in Malaysia; Professor Dr. Cheol Je Cho, Vice-President of Siam University in Thailand; and Mr Chong E Way, Regional Partnership Director of QS Quacquarell Symonds Limited.

The conference recognised the pivotal role of the Asia-Pacific region in shaping the future of global higher education. It provided a focused platform to explore evolving models of mobility, technology-enhanced global learning, cross-border partnerships, shared research, global competencies, sustainable education ecosystems, and the essential role of associations in advancing policy and collaboration. 

Founded in 1965, IAUP is a global network of university leaders dedicated to promoting international cooperation, innovation, and leadership within the higher education community. The University of Saint Joseph is a member university of the association since 2010.
