USJ OSAA participated in an exchange tour to the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin organised by the Macao Student Affairs Association (MSAA) in December 13, along with five other local higher education institutions.
On 13 December 2023, the Macao Student Affairs Association (MSAA) organised an exchange tour to the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. The exchange visit involved six local higher education institutions in total. Through the tour, participating staff members from the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) gained a better understanding of the development plan of the Hengqin Cooperation Zone, the employment opportunities and the current situation of the region, aiming to provide more comprehensive information on business start-ups and employment for USJ students.
The delegation, which consisted of 22 members, departed at 9:30 a.m. at the Hengqin Port’s North Gate. At the first stop, the delegation visited the exhibition hall of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone, where they viewed a film about the future of Hengqin as well as its economic, industrial, and social development. This helped to better grasp the current state of Hengqin and Macao. For the delegation to learn more about many facets of the Cooperation Zone, there were also exhibition panels on Hengqin’s location, transportation, changes in appearance, development history, and key industrial projects.
The delegation then proceeded to the Hengqin Institute of Innovation and Development (HQIID), where the Institute gave an overview of its mission, organizational structure, and primary responsibilities, as well as the range of work that its fellows are expected to accomplish. In order to further assist Macao’s higher education institutions in helping their students comprehend the employment and startup company climate in Hengqin, as well as its advantages, a discussion between the Fellows and the MSAA members was also conducted in the conference room.
Mr. Andrew Wong, Senior Officer of OSAA at USJ, said during the discussion that USJ has always been dedicated to encouraging young people’s inclusion in the growth of the Greater Bay Area. He believed that this exchange represented a unique chance for Macao’s higher education institutions to learn more about entrepreneurship and employment in the Greater Bay Area, and that it would be advantageous for the university to assist students in better disseminating information about career planning and the variety of development opportunities available in the Hengqin Cooperation Zone.
The third stop of the tour was a visit to the Scientific Research Headquarters Building of the Guangdong-Macau Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Industrial Park, where the delegation was given an introduction to the history of the facility, its general layout, and the specifics of its healthcare platform. The tour ended with a visit to the Dahengqin Porcelain Art Exhibition Hall, where the delegation once again expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the MSAA for providing a platform for Macao’s higher education institutions to visit the Hengqin Cooperation Zone.
