USJ Student Wins First Prize in Chinese Writing Competition themed "My Understanding of Cybersecurity" in the National Security Education Exhibition 2024

USJ Student Sun Haoxuan (Keven) won the first prize in the “My Understanding of Cybersecurity” Chinese essay writing competition, organised by the Macao SAR Government and Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government. The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, presented the award during the opening ceremony of the 2024 National Security Education Exhibition.



The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) proudly announces that Sun Haoxuan (Keven), a Year-2 Bachelor of Communication and Media student from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, has emerged as the winner of the Chinese essay competition “My Understanding of Cybersecurity.” The competition held under the National Security Education Exhibition 2024, is jointly organised by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, and received an overwhelming response with over 22,000 submissions from local high schools and higher education institutions.

The awarding ceremony for the competition was held on Monday, 15th of April, 2024, at the opening ceremony of the National Security Education Exhibition 2024. The Chief Executive of the Macao SAR, Mr. Ho Iat Seng, presented the award to Keven Sun during the ceremony, commending his remarkable accomplishments. In his acceptance speech, Keven expressed heartfelt gratitude and highlighted the importance of comprehending the fundamental principle that “National security cannot be achieved without Cybersecurity.” He acknowledged the vital interconnection between cybersecurity in Macao and national cybersecurity, urging his fellow students to embrace the national call by developing a comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity, adhering to laws and regulations, upholding ethical standards, and actively participating in the protection of cybersecurity.

The objective of the competition was to foster a deep understanding of cybersecurity and its significance in safeguarding national security among students, encouraging them to contribute actively to this critical domain. Keven Sun’s exceptional performance and profound insights earned him the first prize in the Tertiary Group of the competition.

Rector of USJ, Prof. Stephen Morgan, lauded Keven’s achievement, stating, “We are immensely proud of Keven’s outstanding performance in the essay competition. His success is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and the exceptional commitment he has shown. At USJ we value immensely that students like Keven are able to function at a high level in differing languages. After dominating the Macao English Essay awards this year, I am particularly delighted by Keven’s performance in Chinese essay writing.
