USJ representatives participated in the crime prevention exchange meeting of the Judicial Police to explore the optimization of the police school liaison mechanism.

On 6 June 2022, the Judicial Police held the “School Safety Network” crime prevention exchange meeting with representatives from the local education department, higher education institutions and youth organizations to explore the optimization of the existing police school safety network mechanism and the continuous improvement of crime prevention education strategies to promote the cooperation of multiple parties to protect the safety and healthy growth of young people.

Ms Teresa Loong, Director of Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) and Mr Ambrose Antonio, Chairman of the University of Saint Joseph Students’ Association (USJSA) participated in the meeting. Delegates expressed concern about the mental health of youth and suggested that the government should establish a mechanism to prevent youth from committing suicide or self-harm. Other suggestions include organizing seminars on domestic violence prevention for parents, advocating education and personal skills training for youth to strengthen their ability to resist crime, adopting newer and more suitable ways to educate young people on crime prevention.

The Judicial Police will further strengthen the liaison between the police and schools, and will continue to work together to efficiently respond to juvenile delinquency cases, and include information on juvenile mental health, signs of suicide or self-harm in the school safety network mechanism.
