USJ Macao visits Hong Kong to Advance Educational Cooperation and Promote Academic Development Between the Two Regions

On the 14th of January 2025, a delegation of six members from the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) in Macao visited Maryknoll Secondary School and the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) to further strengthen cooperation with educational institutions in Hong Kong and promote educational exchanges and development between Macao and Hong Kong.

The delegation was led by Vice-Rector for Student Life Dr. Teresa Loong, and included Dean of the School of Education Prof. Rochelle Ge, Assistant Professor and Programme Coordinator of the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) Prof. Isabel Tchiang, Assistant Professor and Programme Coordinator of the Bachelor of Education Prof. Susannah Sun, Head of the Domestic Student Recruitment Office (DSRO) Mr. Ben Lei, and Senior Officer at DSRO Ms. Jenny Mok.

Constructive Cooperation Discussion between USJ and Maryknoll Secondary School

The delegation first visited Maryknoll Secondary School, and were warmly received by School manager Mr. Lai Wing Chun, Principal Ms. Cheng Ying Kai, Vice principal (Academic) Mr. Yau Yuen Lueng, and Career teacher Mr. Chan Ka Hing. The USJ delegation toured the campus and engaged in in-depth discussions. Both parties introduced their educational philosophies, curriculum features, and educational achievements, leading to constructive discussions on future cooperation.

During the meeting, several collaborative intentions were established, including USJ organising admissions seminars for Maryknoll’s students, providing professional training for teachers, and planning to sign a memorandum of understanding to solidify the cooperation foundation. Additionally, Maryknoll Secondary School expressed its intention to visit USJ in the future, further deepening the friendly relationship between the two institutions.

Exploring Educational Innovation Cooperation Plans between USJ and EdUHK

In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Education University, where they received a warm welcome from senior officials. The EdUHK delegation included Vice President (Administration) Dr. Tom Fong, Dean of Graduate School Prof. Michelle Gu, Director of Global Affairs Mr. Donny Siu, and Project Manager Ms. Betty To.

During the meeting, both parties introduced their internationalisation strategies and features, discussing several potential collaborative projects. Dr. Tom Fong highly praised USJ’s efforts in internationalisation and high-quality education and expressed hope that both parties could promote educational innovation in the region through cooperation.

The meeting yielded fruitful results, with both parties planning to participate in each other’s academic seminars and promote student exchange programs, providing more opportunities for international learning for students from both institutions.

Prospects for Advancing Educational Cooperation between the Two Regions

USJ is looking forward to establishing close cooperation with the Hong Kong education sector and to build a bridge for academic collaboration between Macao and Hong Kong. USJ hopes to deepen mutual understanding through this visit, jointly develop cooperative projects, and provide more resources and opportunities for teachers and students to enhance educational quality.

With the implementation of follow-up activities, the connections between the University of Saint Joseph and the education sectors in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area are expected to become even closer, injecting new vitality into the nation’s educational development.
