The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions at various levels, with particular emphasis on establishing research ties in philosophy.
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) in Macau and the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) in Porto Alegre, Brazil, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions at various levels, with particular emphasis on establishing research ties in philosophy.
PUCRS is a prominent private, Catholic, and philanthropic university located in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Established in 1931 and officially recognised as a university in 1948, it is the largest private higher education institution in Rio Grande do Sul and the first university founded by the Marist Brothers worldwide. PUCRS provides over 50 undergraduate programs, 24 master’s degrees, 22 doctoral programs, and more than 100 specialisations, serving approximately 35,000 students. The university is renowned for its strong research environment, interdisciplinary innovation, and excellent facilities, including its Museum of Science and Technology, which is regarded as one of the best in the country.
Through this Memorandum of Understanding, both universities have expressed their interest in collaborating on student and teacher mobility and in offering double degrees in Portuguese and English.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Professor Álvaro Barbosa, Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Academic Affairs at USJ, and Professor Manuir José Mentges, Rector of PUCRS.

A Universidade de São José (USJ), em Macau, e a Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), em Porto Alegre, Brasil, assinaram um Memorando de Entendimento para fortalecer a cooperação entre as duas instituições em diversos níveis, com especial ênfase na criação de laços de investigação em filosofia.
A PUCRS é uma universidade privada, católica e filantrópica de destaque em Porto Alegre, no Brasil. Fundada em 1931 e oficialmente reconhecida como universidade em 1948, é a maior instituição de ensino superior privada do Rio Grande do Sul e a primeira universidade fundada pelos Irmãos Maristas no mundo. A PUCRS oferece mais de 50 cursos de licenciatura, 24 mestrados, 22 doutoramentos e mais de 100 cursos de especialização, atendendo aproximadamente 35.000 estudantes. A universidade é reconhecida por seu forte ambiente de pesquisa, inovação interdisciplinar e excelentes instalações, incluindo o Museu de Ciência e Tecnologia, considerado um dos melhores do país.
Por meio deste Memorando de Entendimento, ambas as universidades manifestaram o seu interesse em colaborar na mobilidade de estudantes e docentes, bem como na oferta de duplas titulações em português e em inglês.
O Memorando de Entendimento foi assinado pelo Professor Álvaro Barbosa, Vice-Reitor para a Internacionalização e Assuntos Académicos da USJ, e pelo Professor Manuir José Mentges, Reitor da PUCRS.
