The annual Procession of Our Lady of Fátima took place in central Macao on the 13th of May, with USJ students, alumni, and staff members participating as a group for the first time.
In the evening on the 13th of May 2023, streets in central Macao were filled with the faithful as they participated in the annual Procession of Our Lady of Fátima. This significant Catholic event honours the Virgin Mary and commemorates the apparitions that occurred in Fátima, Portugal, in 1917.
Despite the rain, a group of students, alumni, and staff members from the University of Saint Joseph Macao (USJ) joined the procession as a school body for the first time. They gathered at Largo da Sé at 5 pm, ready to pay homage to the Virgin Mary and participate in this important religious event.
The procession was marked by faithful saying Rosary and singing hymns in honour of Our Lady. The rain did not dampen their spirits, as they continued to march forward with devotion and reverence.
The procession culminated at the Capela de Nossa Senhora da Penha, where a Eucharistic Benediction was given to bless the city and its residents.
The participation of the USJ community in this year’s procession forges the University’s commitment to providing its students with opportunities to engage in meaningful and significant events that are important to the local community.
