This collaboration between the two Catholic universities in Asia showcases a partnership aimed at enhancing educational experiences in the field of media production.

In an important step towards strengthening academic ties between Catholic universities in Asia, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao and Assumption University in Bangkok recently organised a collaborative event titled “Audio & Video Production Workshops“. This initiative, held from 20th to 24th of February and 10th to 14th of March, took place at the studio building of Assumption University, showcasing a partnership aimed at enhancing educational experiences in the field of media production.

The workshop was a joint effort by the Department of Media, Art and Technology at USJ Macao and the Albert Laurence School of Communication Arts from Assumption University. It was designed to provide students from Assumption University with innovative approaches to audio and video production, mirroring the learning methodologies at USJ Macao, which is recognised as a leading institution in Asia for Communication and Media studies.

The event was divided into two intensive sessions. Session 1, led by Dr. Mladen Milicevic, focused on sound production, teaching students the art of creating soundtracks for videos. Session 2, under the guidance of Prof. João Nuno Brochado, allowed participants to delve into video production by creating their own short films. This hands-on session covered the entire filmmaking process, from scriptwriting to editing, providing a comprehensive learning experience.

The workshop was exclusive to students from the Bachelor of Imagineer Media Entrepreneurship programme at Assumption University, with a total of 25 participants benefiting from this unique educational opportunity. Upon successful completion, each participant was awarded a certificate jointly issued by USJ Macao and Assumption University, adding value to their academic credentials.

This collaboration is not just a one-time event; it represents a growing partnership. USJ Macao has a history of organising similar workshops globally, enhancing its reputation for fostering educational exchanges. Looking ahead, the students who participated in this workshop are set to visit USJ Macao in October for a Creative Experiences Workshop, further deepening the cultural and academic exchange between the two institutions.

Dr. Mladen Milicevic, a professor with extensive experience in music research and sound production, brought his expertise from his time at the University of California, Los Angeles, and his work in the film industry. Mr. João Nuno Brochado, with a rich background in video production, has worked on various international projects, bringing a global perspective to the workshop.

This initiative not only builds connections among Catholic universities but also opens doors for Assumption University students to potentially pursue higher education at USJ Macao, particularly in master’s programs, thus broadening their academic horizons.
