The University of Saint Joseph Macao (USJ) and the University of Mindelo (UM) of Cabo Verde signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 19 October, 2023, aimed at cooperation between these two higher education institutions.

The document was signed as part of the visit that a USJ delegation made to UM, in the Republic of Cabo Verde, São Vicente Island.
The USJ delegation was received by the Rector of UM, Professor Albertino Graça and other members of the UM Administration.
The Rector of the University of Mindelo (UM) stressed the interest in promoting academic exchange and cooperation with Higher Education institutions of the Special Administrative Region of Macau, People’s Republic of China.
In this context, future cooperation activities were discussed and areas of academic cooperation were identified, with emphasis on the exchange of students and teachers, which resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between USJ and UM, on 19 October, 2023 .
During the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding, the Vice-Rector of USJ, Professor Álvaro Barbosa, highlighted that Macao has an important role as a platform for cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, and reaffirmed the positioning and character of USJ, the historical similarities between the two institutions, which further reinforces USJ’s mission in approaching and developing academic partnerships with Higher Education Institutions in Portuguese-speaking Countries, in this case, the Republic of Cabo Verde. He concluded that the partnership now signed will enable the mobility of students, teachers and the collaboration of joint academic research projects between the two institutions in the future.
University of Mindelo is an Higher Education Institution in the city of Mindelo, Island of São Vicente, Cabo Verde. It was established in 2002 and officially started operations on October 11th, 2002 as the Instituto de Estudos Superiores Isidoro da Graça. In 2010 it was converted into the University of Mindelo.

Universidade de São José Macau e a Universidade do Mindelo, Cabo Verde, assinam um Memorandum de Entendimento
Universidade de São José Macau (USJ) e a Universidade do Mindelo (UM) de Cabo Verde assinaram um Memorandum de Entendimento visando a cooperação entre estas duas instituições de ensino superior.
O documento foi assinado no âmbito da visita que a delegação da USJ fez à UM, na República de Cabo Verde, Ilha de São Vicente.
A delegação da USJ foi recebida pelo Reitor da UM, Professor Doutor Albertino Graça e outros elementos da Administração da UM.
O Reitor da UM manifestou muito interesse na promoção do intercâmbio e cooperação académica com instituições de Ensino Superior da Região Administrativa Especial de Macau, República Popular da China.
Neste contexto, foram discutidas actividades de cooperação futura e identificadas áreas de cooperação académica, com destaque para o intercâmbio de estudantes e professores, o que resultou na assinatura de um Memorandum de Entendimento entre a USJ e a UM, no dia 19 de Outubro de 2023.
No acto de assinatura do Memorando de Entendimento, o Vice-Reitor da USJ, Professor Doutor Álvaro Barbosa enalteceu que Macau tem um papel importante como plataforma para cooperação entre a China e os Países de Língua Portuguesa, e reafirmou o posicionamento, o carácter da USJ, as similaridades históricas existentes entre as duas instituições, que reforça ainda mais a missão da USJ na aproximação e desenvolvimento de parcerias académicas junto de Instituições de Ensino Superior dos Países de Língua Portuguesa, neste caso a Universidade do Mindelo na Ilha de São Vicente. Concluiu que a parceria agora firmada possibilitará no futuro a mobilidade de estudantes, docentes e a colaboração em projectos de investigação académica conjunto entre ambas as instituições.
