On the 3rd of March 2025, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and the Macau Family Education Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to increase cooperation and development between the two parties, hoping to jointly promote the development of family education in Macau and help parents better cope with the challenges in the parenting process.

The signing ceremony was held at the Senate Room of the USJ Ilha Verde Campus. The main guests attending the ceremony included Ms. Fei Chunyan – Director of the Social Work Department from Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government, Dr. Teresa Loong – Vice-Rector of USJ, Dr. Jacky Ho – Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of USJ, Ms. Wang Dong – President of the Family Education Association and Mr. Henry Cheang – Executive Chairman of the Board of Family Education Association. Witnessed by all the guests present, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed by representatives Ms. Wang Dong and Dr. Teresa Loong. It marked the formal cooperation between the two parties in the field of family education. Meanwhile, Mr. Henry Cheang presented a consultant appointment letter to Dr. Jayson Lou, Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Health Sciences of USJ at the ceremony.

Dr. Teresa Loong said that she was honored to sign the agreement on behalf of the Rector. The cooperation framework mainly involves family education needs. She hoped that both parties would cooperate at the academic and research levels, establish mechanisms and promote regional projects, so as to catch social attention to this issue and jointly contribute to the topic of family education.

In TDM interview, Dr. Jacky Ho said that dual-income families are becoming more common in Macao, meanwhile the time parents and children spend together is decreasing. He hopes to establish systematic training and teaching materials to improve the quality of parent-child relationships and education. Dr. Jacky Ho also mentioned that given the low birth rate problem that Macao and the world are currently facing, it is difficult to encourage residents to have children through policies in the short term. In the long run, a good environment should be built from the aspects of social support and workplace culture to enhance confidence.
