A delegation from Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui (Anglican) Ming Hua Theological College (Ming Hua) visited the University of Saint Joseph’s (USJ) Seminary and Ilha Verde campuses. This visit was part of the developing partnership between Ming Hua and the USJ following the signature of the Memorandum of Understanding celebrated last November.
The event entitled “USJ’s Doctoral School and Faculty of Religious Studies and Philosophy, and HKSKH Ming Hua Theological College (Hong Kong) Open Day 2025” gathered higher representatives of both institutions, namely, Archbishop Dr. Paul Kwong, Principal of Ming Hua; Revd. Professor Stephen Morgan, Rector of USJ; Revd. Fr. Prof. Cyril Law, Dean of the Faculty of Religious Studies and Philosophy; Professor Adérito Fernandes-Marcos, Dean of the Doctoral School; Prof. Stephen Lin, Liaison of Ming Hua-USJ; Prof. Franz Gassner, Area Professor for Religious Studies; and Prof. António Maneira, member of the Doctoral Programme Coordination, as well as several potential candidates to the Doctoral Programme.
The programme included visits to the Seminary and the Ilha Verde campuses, including chapels, libraries, laboratories, accommodation facilities, the Museum of Sacred Art of the Saint Joseph Seminary, a joint lunch, and multiple bilateral discussions.
For the Doctoral Programme Degree awarded by USJ, special conditions include the possibility of having the Foundational Year with modules conducted in intensive mode, recognition of specific prior learning experience earned at Ming Hua, a special reduced tuition rate, and shared thesis/research supervision between USJ and Ming Hua.
The event strengthened our partnership and mutual understanding and informed potential candidates about the special conditions created within this partnership for the 2025 Fall Intake.
