On the 21st of February, 15 members of the Protestant Church of Germany (EKD) visited Macao as part of their Regional Conference in Hong Kong. Serving their communities in Beijing, Hong Kong SAR, Seoul, Tokyo, Sydney, Springvale, Bangkok, Bangalore, New Delhi, and at the headquarters in Germany, they were interested in input by Rev’d. Professor Stephen Morgan, Rector of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), on what it means to serve as an Christian Institution in the context of Greater China. His lecture at the Morrison Chapel was well received by the participants. Rector Morgan also explained to them the challenges and relevance of the missionary and translator Robert Morrison for China.
After the lecture in the historical Chapel, the Old Protestant was toured and important important graves visited, besides the family members of Robert Morrison, e.g. the Royal Navy captain Henry John Spencer-Churchill, who was the great-great-granduncle of Winston Churchill, or the US Naval Lieutenant Joseph Harod Adams, who was the grandson of the second president of the United States, John Adams.
