USJ celebrated the 74th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China together with “Happiness in Capital of Hakka in the world” – 2023′ Guangdong Han Opera National Tour – Macau Performance.
In order to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) hosted the 2023′ Guangdong Han Opera National Tour – Macau Performance: “Happiness in Capital of Hakka in the world” performed by the Guangdong Han Opera Heritage Research Institute – on Saturday, 14 October 2023, at the Auditório Centenário de Fátima in Ilha Verde Campus.
The event was sponsored by the Publicity Department of the Meizhou Municipal Party Committee, the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Meizhou Municipal Committee, and the Meizhou Municipal Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau. It was hosted by the Guangdong Han Opera Heritage Research Institute and co-organized by the University of Saint Joseph and the Macao Jiaying Association.
Guangdong Han Opera is one of the three major forms of opera in Guangdong Province with a history of more than 300 years. The Guangdong Han Opera Heritage Research Institute was founded in 1959 and is a national intangible cultural heritage, and has been honoured as the “Peony of the South” by the beloved Premier Zhou Enlai. The Guangdong Han Opera Heritage Research Institute has been invited to perform abroad many times and this time, it has brought a series of unique Chinese operas to Macao, bringing new audio-visual enjoyment to the audience.
