The Faculty of Social Sciences and Education’s Department of Psychology held an online public lecture on 21 May 2022 on Congruence Couple Therapy by Dr. Bonnie Lee.

Last Saturday, on May 21st, 2022, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Education’s Department of Psychology held an online public lecture, moderated by Prof. Vitor Teixeira, Head of the Department, on “An Integrative Framework for Working with Couples: Congruence Couple Therapy” by Dr. Bonnie Lee, Associate Professor in Health Sciences (Addictions Counselling) at the University of Lethbridge, Canada. More information on Dr. Lee’s work can be found here.

With over 20 participants from Macao, Hong Kong, Portugal and Canada, Dr. Lee discussed the historical and sociological evolution of couples, afterwards introducing and discussing the innovative integrative approach of Congruence Couple Therapy (CCT). CCT, effective in addressing a wide range of family issues, is a humanistic, deeply systemic, trauma-informed model that utilises the couple relationship as a resource to create significant clinical outcomes for addiction and mental health.

The engaging lecture introduced key research findings and practical examples of the implementation of this therapy, particularly relevant to the students of the University of Saint Joseph’s Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy

The Department of Psychology looks forward to continuing promoting events that are open to the general public and showcase different approaches and interventions used in the field in order to promote mental health and well-being.
