Delegation of the University of Santo Tomas visits USJ Macao to explore future collaboration opportunities

A delegation of the University of Santo Tomas (UST), led by Associate Prof. Archie B. Resos, PhD – Chair, UST Department of History, visited USJ Macao on May 2, 2024.



A delegation of the University of Santo Tomas (UST), led by Associate Prof. Archie B. Resos, PhD – Chair, UST Department of History, visited the University of Saint Joseph Macao (USJ Macao) on May 2, 2024.

The UST delegates were cordially welcomed by the Reverend Prof. Stephen Morgan, Rector of USJ Macao, Professor Álvaro Barbosa, Vice-rector for Internationalisation and Academic Affairs and Dr. Teresa Loong, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs.

During the meeting, the delegation met with Prof. Carlos Caires, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor Priscilla Roberts from the Department of History, and Teresinha Fok, a member of the International Affairs Office. The primary objective of the visit was to explore opportunities for establishing a partnership between the two universities, with a particular focus on fostering collaboration between the Faculty of Art and Humanities of USJ Macao and the Faculty of Arts and Letters of UST. The discussions centred around potential initiatives, including avenues for student exchange, academic exchange for teaching and research, joint thesis and project supervision, as well as the possibility of coordinating double degree programs.

Also presented at the meeting were the UST delegates members Assistant Prof. Edelberto C. Bunquin, MA, Assistant Prof. Robert John I. Donesa, MA and Assistant Prof. Jerome Marcel J. Jaime, MA. 

USJ Macao would like to extend sincere gratitude to a current Master of History and Heritage student Mr. Argene Aguila Clasara for his invaluable contribution in facilitating this visit. Mr. Argene, who graduated from UST in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in History, subsequently enrolled in USJ Macao’s Master’s program in 2022.

UST proudly holds membership in the Association of Southeast and East Asian Catholic Colleges and Universities (ASEACCU). In 2022, USJ Macao was elected as the Executive Secretariat of ASEACCU for the term of 2022-2025. This appointment recognizes USJ Macao’s dedication to promoting academic excellence and fostering collaboration among member institutions. This achievement reinforces the commitment of both UST and USJ Macao to Catholic education and regional cooperation in the ASEACCU community.
