This production is the first in Asia to incorporate the OTTOsonics immersive sound system, a groundbreaking technology developed in partnership with the University of Arts Linz (Austria) and the University of Saint Joseph (Macao). This time, built by Prof Gerald Estadieu and Prof Sandra Olga Ng Ka Man, the multi-channel Ambisonics platform brought depth and dimension to the performance, enhancing the visual and emotional impact of the puppetry and imagery.
As part of the 10 years of Rolling X “Hello Grown-ups Hello Kids” Series, ChongChong’s Hamster directed by Teresa Lam Teng Teng, enchanted audiences over five performances (December 6–8), featuring a story that explores themes of growth, loss, and resilience. This debut served as a testament to the power of collaboration and artistic innovation, pushing the boundaries of what live theatre can achieve.
ChongChong’s Hamster tells the heartwarming tale of ChongChong, a young boy who wins a little hamster as a prize. This unexpected companion becomes a guide, helping ChongChong navigate life’s challenges and embrace personal growth. The play, written by Nick Rongjun Yu, one of China’s most acclaimed playwrights, is his first work for both parents and younger audiences. Nick collaborated with his son, Godot Chengxun Yu, to craft a story that resonates with viewers of all ages.
As Macao’s first professional puppet and alternative theatre company, Rolling Puppet Alternative Theatre is dedicated to exploring new artistic horizons. Through ChongChong’s Hamster, the group demonstrated its commitment to bridging traditional puppetry with modern innovation, fostering collaboration between local and international artists, as well as further collaboration with USJ and OTTOsonics.
