25

Jul

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is hosting a public presentation on the Master of History and Heritage Studies programme for the academic year 2023/2024 on July 25, at the USJ Ilha Verde Campus.

The Master of History and Heritage Studies is an interdisciplinary degree that connects the fields of History, Cultural History, and Heritage Studies. It provides students with a deep and nuanced understanding of the historical-cultural configuration of Macao, the Pearl River Delta, and of aspects of East and Southeast Asia at large.

Students acquire fundamental skills in historical and cultural research, as well as practical knowledge key for the management and conservation of cultural patrimony. Students have the opportunity to participate in hands-on fieldwork activities in historical sites, with a particular concentration on the History and Cultural Heritage of Macao and the Pearl River Delta region. Furthermore, students gain knowledge and skills relevant to the care of cultural patrimony, tangible and intangible, and skills in historical research.

During the two years of evening course work, Master of History and Heritage Studies students hold full-time& student status.

The key unique points of this program are:

  • interdisciplinarity linking experts (practitioners and academics) in different fields,
  • in-depth understanding of Macau’s historical context within Pearl River delta region (critical for any work in tourism industry or government bodies),
  • integration of core historical disciplines and applied knowledge for heritage management.

Programme presentation will briefly outline the curriculum, its difference from other similar programs (in Macau and Hong Kong). And will emphasize the broad scope of connections that have been established in the past two years with scholars in Macau, Hong Kong and internationally.
