15

Jun

The Faculty of Religious Studies and Philosophy will hold a Public Lecture on The Legacy of Pope Benedict XVI (1927-2022) titled “Josef Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) on Culture & Music” on 15 June 2023.

ABOUT THE TALK:

Pope Benedict’s XVI left behind profound reflections on the nature and relevance of cultures for humans and their societies. Of special relevance for him is the question of origin, meaning, openness, and universal relevance of cultures, and how cultures are transformed and ordered towards the Wholeness of Truth and the Divine. Thus, religions are naturally at the heart of cultures for Pope Benedict XVI. In Christian terms, the relevance of Jesus Christ and of Christian Faith inand for cultures is central. The lecture will reflect on challenges of cultures and Christian Faith (his coinage “inter-culturality”), and will be based mainly on the Lecture delivered by Josef Cardinal Ratzinger in Hong Kong on March 3rd 1993 at the Meeting of the Doctrinal Commissions in Asia. The lecture will also highlight the relevance of classical music for Pope Benedict VI, and specifically its relation to the history of salvation.
