Prof. Priscilla Roberts, Head of the Department of History and Heritage speaks and Chairs Committee at Transatlantic Studies Association 24th Annual Conference held from 13 – 15 July 2026 at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Associate Professor Priscilla Roberts, Head of the Department of History and Heritage of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at USJ, is a long-term member of the Transatlantic Studies Association, in which she has held various offices since it came into being in 2000. At its 24th Annual Conference, held in July 2026 at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, she delivered a paper on “The Founding of the Commonwealth of Learning, 1985-1993: Building on Transatlanticism”. This presentation focused in part upon the contributions of the Open College of the University of East Asia, Macau, to the establishment of this transnational organisation, which still exists today and spans the British Commonwealth.
Prof. Roberts is also the long-time chairperson of the TSA/ Cambridge University Press Book Prize Committee, which decides annually on the winner of a prize for the best book on a Transatlantic subject. This year, the prize went to Mary E. Hicks, Captive Cosmpolitans: Black Mariners and the World of South Atlantic Slavery, co-published by the Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture of the College of William and Mary, and the University of North Carolina Press.
