The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao explored collaboration opportunities with Brazilian Technological and Innovation Parks and the Business Association during the visit organised by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) to Brazil from 8th to 17th October, 2025.

During the visit to Brazil from 8th to 17th October, 2025, organised by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) and led by Deputy Director Mr. Teng Sio Hong, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) had the opportunity to visit to two prominent technological parks; in São Paulo, the Parque de Inovação Tecnológica São José dos Campos (PIT) and, in Rio de Janeiro, the Porto Maravalley Technology Hub (POMAR), alongside a visit also to the Associação Comercial do Rio de Janeiro (ACRJ). These visits aim at enhancing global and regional academic collaboration, cultivating skilled professionals essential for Macao’s sustainable economic transformation, and supporting the growth of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area as a center for innovation in higher education.

This rapprochement through academic partnerships, explore collaboration opportunities between academia and the entrepreneurs and business sector, creating a knowledge base that will support future entrepreneurs, businesses and commercial activities across both regions, where Macau Spin Incubator (a Macau-based business incubator center offering startups in the Portuguese-speaking countries and the Greater Bay Area the opportunity to connect, network, and pair with expert service to guide interested parties towards achieving goals and succeeding in the business endeavours), could serve as the facilitator and foster business networks, facilitating knowledge exchange, mentorship, and market access for startups. This collaboration seeks to empower Brazilian entrepreneurs by providing access to USJ’s incubation facilities, expertise in business development, and international networks. And also, USJ explored potential partnerships for student internships and innovation labs.

USJ Vice-Rector Prof. João Alexandre Lobo highlighted the significance of these engagements: “Our visits to the technological and innovation parks and Casa do Empresário are crucial steps in positioning USJ as a bridge between Macao and Brazil’s vibrant entrepreneurial communities. We are committed to fostering innovation and supporting startups that can thrive in both markets.”

These efforts align with USJ’s broader mission to enhance international cooperation in innovation and entrepreneurship, reinforcing Macao’s role as a dynamic hub connecting China with Lusophone countries. The visit sets the foundation for future collaborative projects that will benefit entrepreneurs, researchers, and enterprises across both regions.
