USJ’s Xavier Centre for Memory and Identity holds first Roundtable for IFCU Research Group

International Research Group on Memory and Identity to produce research relevant to Catholic Higher Education.



On 8 September 2023, the Xavier Centre for Memory and Identity at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) coordinated the first Roundtable meeting of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU) International Research Group on Memory and Identity, which has members from Assumption University in Thailand, Notre Dame University in Lebanon, Notre Dame University Australia, Saint Paul Institute in Cambodia, the Catholic University of Portugal, and the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. 

Xavier Centre member, Joshua Lash-Ballew presented on Articulating a Grammar of Identity / Alterity for Catholic Universities. The group is oriented around the production of papers on topics of memory and identity relevant to Catholic higher education to be presented at the 2025 IFCU General Assembly at Universidad del Valle de Atemajac in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Xavier Centre for Memory and Identity member Joshua Lash-Ballew also presented Articulating a Grammar of Identity / Alterity for Catholic Universities to the Africa Peace and Development Network (Mtandao wa Amani na Maendeleo Afrika (MAMA), coordinated out of St. Augustine University of Tanzania on September 27th 2023 for further feedback and refinement.
